Adaptive Responses

Respond with the mindset the moment requires.

Help your leaders recognize their familiar responses and expand how they approach demanding interactions. Adaptive Responses builds practice in choosing when to listen, speak up, stay composed, or stand firm.

Introducing Everything DiSC® Agile EQ™

Different situations call for different responses.

Agile EQ explores how to recognize the emotional and interpersonal needs of a situation and choose a response that fits. This is the foundation of Adaptive Responses.

What we cover

Eight mindsets. More ways to respond.

Some responses feel natural. Others take more effort. Explore all eight mindsets and consider which ones different situations call for.

Self-assured

Express confidence in your ideas and abilities, assert your views, and take charge when needed.

Dynamic

Put ideas into action and influence others to get involved.

Outgoing

Build relationships and share your thoughts and feelings openly.

Empathizing

Seek to understand people’s feelings and difficulties, and offer support.

Receptive

Stay open to other ideas and be willing to adjust your own preferences.

Composed

Pause before acting and moderate your response, even when a situation is stressful.

Objective

Separate facts from feelings and examine the situation logically.

Resolute

Speak up about problems and hold your ground when you encounter resistance.

No DiSC style is more emotionally intelligent than another. The work is learning to recognize what a situation needs and stretch beyond your familiar responses.

Inside Adaptive Responses

Recognize your patterns. Practice a different response.

Three modules combine personal reflection, video scenarios, peer discussion, and practice. Explore what participants work through in each.

Your EQ strengths

Understand the responses that come naturally.

Review your EQ strengths and the needs that help explain them. Consider where those mindsets have served you well and where you could use them more intentionally.

  • Reflect on the strengths you recognize in your profile.
  • Discuss how those strengths show up in your interactions.
  • Identify new situations where you could apply them.
Beyond your comfort zone

Explore what another response could make possible.

Compare video scenarios showing a familiar response and alternative mindsets. Discuss what the situation calls for and learn from people for whom a different mindset comes naturally.

  • Examine the benefits of mindsets you use less comfortably.
  • Consider opportunities to stretch in your own interactions.
  • Choose a mindset you want to develop.

Your effort meters indicate how much effort a mindset currently takes. They do not measure how well you can use it or your potential.

Develop your EQ

Rehearse a stretch and plan how to use it.

Explore what makes a new response difficult, then practice with a scenario and receive feedback from peers.

  • Identify the instinctive thoughts that may get in your way.
  • Practice responding from your chosen mindset.
  • Select a realistic development action and build an action plan.

Choose a step that feels achievable and stretches you beyond your usual response.

Participants leave with a specific stretch practice to try in a real interaction, with a support person and a date to review how it went.
