Leadership Practice

Develop leaders who set direction and bring people together to act.

Leadership Practice helps leaders strengthen how they create vision, build alignment, and drive execution. Participants examine their own approach, work through a real organizational challenge, and test adjustments between sessions.

Built on Everything DiSC® Work of Leaders

What we cover

Three connected areas of leadership practice.

Leadership Practice explores how you shape a direction, build commitment to it, and help people carry it through. Each area includes three practices to examine and strengthen.

Crafting a vision

Imagine what could be possible and develop a direction that creates value for your group or organization.

Exploration
Stay open to possibilities and consider the bigger picture.
Boldness
Consider adventurous ideas and speak up about them.
Testing assumptions
Seek counsel and explore the implications of your ideas.

Building alignment

Help people understand the direction, contribute their perspectives, and commit to the work ahead.

Clarity
Organize your message and explain the reasoning behind it.
Dialogue
Exchange perspectives and remain receptive to others.
Inspiration
Express enthusiasm and help people see why their contribution matters.

Championing execution

Support the progress, planning, and feedback needed to turn the vision into reality.

Momentum
Initiate action and encourage steady progress.
Structure
Plan the work and examine the details needed to carry it out.
Feedback
Address problems directly and recognize people’s contributions.

Using Everything DiSC® Work of Leaders, participants reflect on their approach in each area and identify adjustments to apply in their own leadership work.

How leaders practice

Turn vision, alignment, and execution into leadership practice.

Use video examples, profile reflection, and discussion to examine how you lead. Apply what you learn to a real organizational challenge and build a practical plan for improvement.

Watch and compare approaches

Examine what helps people align.

Watch a Work of Leaders video example, then consider the leader’s approach and the group’s response.

In the alignment module, participants compare ineffective and adapted approaches to clarity, dialogue, and inspiration. They discuss what changed and how those behaviors apply to their own leadership.

Reflect on your leadership approach

Connect your profile to real experience.

  • Explore your leadership style and priorities.
  • Examine your approach to the behaviors within vision, alignment, and execution.
  • Share examples of strengths and identify behaviors that may require more deliberate effort.

Your Everything DiSC® Work of Leaders profile supports reflection. Everyone can practice these behaviors; some may take more energy than others, and different situations call for different approaches.

Explore how you craft a vision

Open up possibilities and test your thinking.

Exploration
Consider new possibilities and the bigger picture before narrowing your options.
Boldness
Examine barriers to taking risks and speaking out about a bold idea.
Testing assumptions
Seek counsel and explore implications before committing to a direction.

Participants use idea-generation activities, video examples, and discussion to examine these practices in their own roles.

Examine alignment and execution

Help people understand, contribute, and act.

Building alignment
Practice clarity, dialogue, and inspiration: explain the rationale, exchange perspectives, and encourage people’s contribution.
Championing execution
Examine momentum, structure, and feedback: initiate progress, plan the work, address problems, and recognize contributions.

Video comparisons, a structure activity, and a feedback case study help participants consider what works and what they could do differently.

Build a practical action plan

Choose a challenge and plan an adjustment.

  • Gather examples of your leadership strengths and discuss them with a partner.
  • Review challenge areas and ideas for improvement in your profile.
  • Select one challenge and write an action plan for improving your approach.
  • Discuss your plan with a partner and consider how to apply it at work.

In Russo Leadership’s two-session format, participants test adjustments in their own context and return to refine their approach.

Questions to examine

  • Have I explored enough possibilities?
  • Have I explained the reasoning behind the direction?
  • Have I made room for other perspectives?
  • Am I addressing problems and recognizing contributions?

Practices to strengthen

  • Seek counsel and explore implications.
  • Organize the message and explain its rationale.
  • Invite dialogue and remain receptive.
  • Give direct feedback and acknowledge what is working.

Bring a real organizational example. Use the program to examine your approach, test an adjustment, and refine how you lead the work.

Participant perspectives

What participants take from the experience.

Her insightful guidance, strategic thinking, and ability to foster meaningful discussions have helped refine my decision-making skills and develop a more compassionate, inclusive leadership style while still driving results and accountability.

Leadership takes a conscious effort. Through two LEAD Academies with Russo Leadership, I’ve learned to push myself beyond my comfort zone — and while it’s still uncomfortable at times, I can actually feel the growth.

From participant session reflections

Vision

As you share more ideas and take more risks, you will gain more credibility, and it will help you with the further steps and executing the idea in the long run
Clarissa G.Vision session reflection

Alignment

In order to have alignment, you need to provide clarity, dialogue, and inspiration.
Sydney B.Alignment session reflection

Execution

One insight I have from today is feedback is such a critical part of execution and I think it’s probably the area that leaders focus on the least.
